The History of “Annie”

“Annie” is a musical based on a popular comic strip by Harold Gray, called Little Orphan Annie. The comic outlined the adventures of an orphan girl, Annie, and her trusty sidekick, Sandy the dog. Together they get into endless adventures and hilarious predicaments.

In 1977, Little Orphan Annie hit the stage as “Annie”. The musical began at the Broadway Stage and has since grown into the classic that it is today, and has been performed internationally. Many of the original songs became extremely popular during the original performances and have continued to be some of the most iconic Broadway songs. These include “Tomorrow” and the toe-tapping classic “It’s the Hard Knock Life”. There have also been many film adaptations of both the comic strip and the Broadway musical.
