Takoma Park Middle School will be hosting Winterfest this Saturday, December 16th from 10AM-4PM! Join them for great holiday shopping from a variety of local artists and vendors. There’s a wide variety of handcrafted items being sold, so you’re sure to find something for everyone in the family!
What’s Being Sold?
Winterfest will be featuring over 40 local artists and vendors this coming Saturday, December 16th. Some of the items being sold include: watercolors, clothing, quilts, rugs, ornaments, jewelry, henna, mixed media pieces, hand-knit items, bath and body products, candles, and woodwork. These items are all high quality items made by the vendors themselves. A list of the artists and vendors will be available at the end of the article!
Winterfest was planned by a student led group at Takoma Park Middle School called Difference Makers. Difference Makers is a non-profit organization that was started by students who want to make a difference in their community. They started out in 2009 with just a couple dozen members and have now grown to a couple hundred!
Difference Makers have been driven to make a difference in their community. They participate in volunteer and fund raising efforts throughout the county. One of the most prominent fundraisers they have supported is Maryland Special Olympics. They have raised over $62,000 for the organization! They also participate in community service projects that focus on community beautification, environmental awareness and collection/donation of food. Below are some of the projects they have participated in!
- Snow Angels snow shoveling program – providing snow removal services to elderly members of the community
- Global Youth Services Day – planning and participating in a day of service in various different events around the community
- Takoma Park Community Clean-ups (fall and spring) – helping to clean up the local community
- School yard landscaping – help improve the appearance of their school by caring for it
- Recycling and Conservation
All the proceeds from Winterfest will go towards Difference Makers and the projects that they participate in. So, come on out, find some great gifts and help the Difference Makers make a difference!
